Antioch, Contra Costa County
South of Antioch, Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve covers the hills where coal was dug from the 1860s to the early 1900s, the largest coal operation in California. Trails pass old mine openings and a hillside cemetery from the mining towns. On the north side of the city the Delta begins, with its maze of channels, islands and marinas.
